Philosophy

I believe balanced training is the best way to bring out the best in your dog. Balanced training means using rewards like verbal praise, good pets, treats, and consequences or corrections. I will use tools like e-collars, prong collars, slip leads, long-lines, treats, and toys. Through daily practice reinforcing lessons, your dog will become a better listener and more at ease, confident, and happy. To bring out the best, I need your assistance with reinforcing everything that is taught. With your follow through and consistent feedback, your dog will easily understand what is expected. The clear, consistent communication is key to setting boundaries. Together, we will create positive results and a happier, obedient dog. I look forward to working with you to help you and your pup enjoy life to the fullest!

Ginger, the original good dog

Hi!  I am Heather B, the owner of B Good Dogs.  I have loved animals for as long as I can remember and have had dogs in my life since the age of five.  When I finished college and got my first teaching job, I bought my very own little pup and that was my first real experience with dog training, however, it wasn't until years later that I realized I wanted to make a career of it.  After my sweet, obedient Ginger girl passed, my dog time was spent with friends' or family pups.  I was really missing her, and I thought no dog could ever be better.  A few years later, I lost my keys at a park and was in search of them when a stranger who came to be a friend and mentor and her dogs were able to see them.  I then understood the happiness that working with dogs daily provides as well as the happiness that comes from helping families to enjoy their pups to the fullest.  I found a new focus that I most definitely was missing since my dog had passed and saw the potential for training as a career. I began shadowing and eventually working for Jillian Karns from Riverfront Dog Training in Harrisburg Pennsylvania.  With her knowledge and guidance, I began to explore a new journey in training dogs. I have since graduated from T3: Train the Trainers led by experts Jeff Gellman (Solid K9 Training), Sean O'Shea (The Good Dog Training and Rehabilitation), and Tori Smith (Take the Lead K9 Training).  This experience solidified that this is something I need to be doing. I continue to practice as an elementary teacher while my new ambition comes to life.

My background and formal education is in teaching, which has aptly prepared me for this endeavor.  I have both a Bachelors in Education and a Masters in Literacy.  Additionally, I am Canine CPR Certified and continue to attend workshops and trainings to keep my dog training education a primary focus and to stay up to date with the latest knowledge and techniques in the field. Canine Behavior and Training According to Temperament have been the most recently attended courses.

Thank you for visiting my page. I hope to have the opportunity to work with you and your furry friend soon!
